How to manage your family on PlayStation Family app

The PlayStation Family app lets you manage your family from your smart device, and offers additional options to monitor your children’s playtime.

You can access parental controls on your console and on our website. Some family features may only be available via the PlayStation Family app.

How to set up a family on PlayStation Family app   

  1. Open the PlayStation Family app and select Sign in or Create an Account.
  1. Select Set Up Your Family to create an account for a child and add them to your family.
    If your family is already set up, you’re taken directly to the home screen.
  • To add another family member, select Settings > Family Management > Add a child or Add an adult.
  • To remove adult family members, select their name from Family Management to visit the Account Management website, then select Remove from Your Family. Child members can’t be removed from your family.

When you add a child to your family, you configure their parental controls, playtime settings and privacy settings. You can change these settings any time: 

  1. Select the child from the top of the home screen.
  2. Select the Settings icon next to the child’s name.
  3. Select a Child Member Setting to change: 

How to manage parental controls on PlayStation Family app 

  1. Select the child from the top of the home screen.
  2. Select the Settings icon next to the child’s name.
  3. Select Parental Controls and select a setting to change.
  • Restriction Level

How to manage games and app access on PlayStation Family app 

  1. Select the child from the top of the home screen.
  2. Select the Settings icon next to the child’s name.
  3. Select Parental Controls > Games and Apps.
    Here you can manage the age levels for games and apps, Game Requests and Allowed Games.

If your child tries to play a restricted game on a PS5 console, the game is blocked, and a screen appears. From here, your child can send a request for you to make an exception for the game. 

After they send a request, you receive a notification and can choose to either allow or deny your child’s request to play that game.

How to manage online communication on PlayStation Family app 

  1. Select the child from the top of the home screen.
  2. Select the Settings icon next to the child’s name.
  3. Select Parental Controls > Online Communication.
    Here you can Restrict Communication and User-Generated Content, and manage communication requests and games with communication allowed.

If your child tries to use a restricted communication feature, it is blocked, and a screen appears. From there, your child can send a request for you to make an exception for that game.

After they send a request, you will receive a notification and can choose to either allow or deny your child's request to use communication features in that game.

How to manage privacy settings on PlayStation Family app 

  1. Select the child from the top of the home screen.
  2. Select the Settings icon next to the child’s name.
  3. Select Privacy Settings.
    You can change the following settings:
  • Privacy Settings Set By
  • Privacy Profile
  • Social
    Who can ask to be your child’s friend
    Who can interact with your child through parties, games, and messages
    Who can see your child’s friends
    Show read receipts to other players on PlayStation App
  • Activity
    Who can see your child’s games and trophies
    Who can see your child’s online status and what they’re currently playing
    Who can see your child’s activities
    Allow your child to receive crossplay invitations
  • Followers
    Who can follow your child
    Who can see the players your child follows
    Who can see your child’s followers

How to manage playtime on PlayStation Family app 

  1. Select the child from the top of the home screen.
  2. Scroll down to the Playtime widget.
    Here you can manage how long and when your child can play each day. 
  • Playtime data is updated when you open or refresh the app.
  • You receive a notification when the child’s playtime is up. You can adjust the playtime for the child from the notification. 
  • A child can Ask for More Playtime from a PS5 console through any of the reminder notifications. You receive a notification which allows you to Change Playtime in response to the request or Decline.

How to view your child’s Playing Now on PlayStation Family app 

  1. Select the child from the top of the home screen.
  2. Scroll down to the Playing Now widget.
    Here you see what game your child is playing and the age rating for the game.
  • Select Games and apps to manage which games your child can access.
  • Make sure to close any games before your child logs in to get accurate information.

How to view your child’s activity report on PlayStation Family app   

  1. Select the child from the top of the home screen.
  2. Scroll down to the Activity widget.
    The widget shows an activity summary for the last 7 days as well as the most played games and apps. 

How to manage spending limits on PlayStation Family app 

When your child buys content from PlayStation™Store on their account, payment is taken from the family manager's wallet. 

  1. Select the child from the top of the home screen.
  2. Scroll down to the Monthly Spending Limit widget.
  3. Set a monthly spending limit. 
    You can also view your wallet balance and Add Funds.
  • You can decide how much your child is allowed to spend each month. By default, the monthly spending limit is set to 0. If your child is going to buy content on their account, be sure to change this setting.
  • Please note, if you’re a parent or guardian, let the family manager know if you make any changes to spending limits. If you’re the family manager, be aware that anyone you appoint as a guardian can change the spending limits you’ve created.

How to manage PlayStation Family app settings
