Suspensions on PlayStation

Learn why we suspend players from PlayStation and what to do if you are suspended.

Why we suspend players

When you create an account for PlayStation, you agree to obey the PlayStation Terms of Service, which includes the Code of Conduct.

If you breach these terms we may suspend your account's social features or your account itself. Repeated violations can lead to further suspensions.

Suspensions can be:

  • Temporary – lasting for a specific period.
  • Permanent – in cases of serious or repeated violations.

For the most serious breaches, we may suspend your PlayStation console from accessing our service.

Type of suspension

With this suspension, you won't be able to sign into your account and access any PlayStation features, including online multiplayer, PlayStation Store, and other features. That means you will not be able to use some products and services, even ones you paid for.

An account suspension can be either temporary or permanent.

With this suspension, you won't be able to access “social” features, such as interacting with other players and playing online. Communication suspensions will act as account suspensions when attempting to play on a PS4 console.

With this suspension, you will be unable to use your console to access any account, play games or game modes requiring online access, or access content purchased from the PlayStation Store.

The suspension type and length are determined based on the severity of the violation and the player's offense history.

How do I know if my account or console has been suspended from PlayStation?

If we suspend your account or PlayStation console, you will see an error code when attempting to sign in.

If your account has a communication suspension, you will see an error when attempting to use social features such as accessing party chat or changing your online ID.

We usually email you explaining why you’ve been suspended and how long it will last. We send that to the email address associated with your account (your sign-in ID). Be sure to check your junk or spam folder for the email.

You can also check your account status by visiting My Support.

If you have not received a notification, please contact us for further information.

When will my suspension end?

You can access your account or your account’s social features once your suspension ends. You can see how long is left by checking the email notification from PlayStation Safety.

You can also check your suspension details by visiting My Support.

Can I appeal my suspension?

We offer the opportunity to appeal in certain cases. You may be able to submit an appeal where:

  • You have been suspended for an account debt. This will be lifted once you have paid off the balance. For more information, please visit the PlayStation suspension for account debt guide.
  • If your account was permanently suspended.

How can I manage my subscriptions if my account is suspended?

If your account is suspended and you are unable to sign in to your account, the following settings will not be available to you:

  • Add/Remove a Payment Method
  • Cancel Subscription.

We will never take payment for a subscription from an account when an account suspension is in place. If a subscription payment is due while your account is suspended, we will not attempt to take payment and your subscription (and any associated benefits) will lapse.

In the event that you would like to make changes to your subscription settings while your account is suspended, you will need to contact us.

Can a second-hand PlayStation console suspension be lifted?
